Affordable Dunbar Living

Imagine a 33-foot lot having three legal residences. It’s the new eco-density that the city is allowing for in our neighbourhoods.

The owner of this home, Alistair Palmer, had a vision of creating three modular-living residences with flexibility for his changing needs plus affordability by creating rental income. He knocked down his small 70-year-old house and built this beautiful 3,000-square-foot West Coast characteristic home with a legal basement suite and a 540-square-foot laneway home. Palmer now lives in the main residence with his wife and two sons and works from his home office. The basement and Laneway are occupied by rental tenants. For Palmer, this concept afforded him the financial ability to build a new house, with the added benefit of rental income of $4,000 a month. The new revenue stream covers a major part of his mortgage. It was all about location and affordability for this family.
