2011 Built Green BC Awards

Honour High Standards

Adera Development’s Ultimate Green condo development in Burnaby, above, was judged Most Energy Efficient and Sustainable Community.

British Columbia further solidified its reputation as one of the country’s greenest places when the Second Annual 2011 Built Green BC Awards were handed out earlier this fall.  The awards recognize builders and renovators who demonstrate leadership in building healthy, energy-efficient, sustainable homes and serve as a standard by which the public can measure these practices.

More than 3,300 homes have been enrolled in the Built Green program since its introduction several years ago by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC, saving more than 8,250 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, equivalent to removing 5,500 cars from B.C. roads each year.

For years a leader in green building technology, Vancouver’s Adera Development picked up three awards last year and two of six 2011 awards, including – once again – the coveted Built Green BC Builder of the Year. The company also was honoured for its Burnaby development, Ultimate Green, judged Most Energy Efficient and Sustainable Community.

“We’re honoured, tickled with our awards because in this category there are a lot of people doing some tremendous things,” says Eric Andreasen, Adera’s vice-president marketing and sales.  “We believe sustainability is not just the right thing to do but a responsibility we owe to our customers and they are the major benefactors.

“The Built Green BC Awards are third-party validation, a way for customers to affirm that we are making a serious effort, that we fully endorse the philosophy of the Built Green Society of Canada.”  Winners of the four other categories included: Golden’s HR Pacific Construction Management for Vista Lofts (Most Affordable Built Green BC Home); Summerland’s Homescape Building & Design for the Lang-Hodge Residence (Most Innovative Built Green BC Home); Whistler’s Schreyer Construction’s Khyber Home (Highest Rated Built Green BC Home); and Vancouver’s My House Design/Build Team for Dunbar Heritage (Best Whole House Renovation).
