Portrait Homes Honoured For Project in Maple Ridge
Adera also among several B.C. builders and renovators to receive awards from Canadian Home Builders’ Association
Richmond-based Portrait Homes was recognized on the awards podium last weekend, earning top honours at an industry competition organized by the Canadian Home Builders Association. Portrait was handed the Community Development Award at the CHBA’s annual SAM Awards, held March 17 in Mont-Tremblant, Que. That award recognizes “members’ achievements in creating attractive, exciting and innovative communities”, the CHBA said in a prepared release, and went to Portrait for its Silver Ridge project in Maple Ridge.
It was one of several presented to B.C. builders and renovators. Other provincial winners include:
- Abstract Developments Inc. of Victoria won the New Home Award — Production for single-attached homes for Terra Verde.
- Coastal Construction of Victoria won in the New Home Award — Custom category of 2,500 to 4,000 square feet.
- Also in the New Home Award — Custom, Homescape Building & Design Inc. of Summerland won in the single-detached, over 4,000 square feet category, while Adera Development Corporation of Vancouver won in the multi-family project category for Zen at Salus.
- In the Home Renovation Awards, Harald Koehn Construction Ltd. of Vancouver won in the Any Room category, while the award for Best Addition was presented to TQ Construction Ltd. of Burnaby, and the Whole House award for a project of $500,000 or less went to Citta Construction Ltd. of Saanichton.
In the meantime, B.C. individuals who were honoured at the CHBA’s annual convention included a builder, renovator, kitchen-cabinet manufacturer and the chief executive officer of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association. Gary Friend of South Ridge Developments was honoured with the Gordon S. Shipp Award in recognition of leadership, dedication and continuous lengthy service to the CHBA at the national level.
Todd Senft of REVISION Custom Renovations and Michele Strawn of Excelsior Kitchens both were awarded CHBA Award of Honour certificates in recognition of their dedication and service to the association at the local level. And GVHBA president and CEO Peter Simpson — Westcoast Homes’ Constructive Thoughts columnist — was given the Dave Stupart Award of Honour, recognizing the highest level of dedication, professionalism and competence in association management.
This was the first time this award had been presented to the same individual twice. The SAM Awards is a national competition recognizing outstanding performance in new homes and renovation design, innovative technology and construction techniques, and outstanding marketing and sales activities, and is open to all new home builders, renovator and developer members of the CHBA. An independent panel of judges selected from across the country reviews all entries.
In other award news, Portrait Homes was also singled out recently at the 2012 Avid Awards, a national program that assesses and rates homebuyers’ experiences. Portrait was awarded the 2012 Avid Diamond Award Best Customer Experience in Canada, earning 277 points out of a possible 300 and topping the Canadian field, according to a news release. “Over 97 per cent of their homebuyers said they would recommend Portrait Homes to family and friends,” the release said.
