Turning Vision into Reality

By putting themselves in the hands of professionals, these homeowners turned an often-fraught experience into a stress-free reality.

So you’re thinking about changes to your home, perhaps a new kitchen, an open floor plan, master suite, or perhaps you are weighing the options of renovating an entire home – or building a new one? How do you know what’s even possible? How do you deal with bylaws, permits and getting the work done?

When Gary Mynett decided to build his dream home on Gambier Island, he checked out a number of designers and builders to find the one who could take his vision and turn it into reality. He found it in My House Design/Build Team, award-winning renovation and custom home professionals who serve the Greater Vancouver area.

“They knew exactly what I wanted, they inspired confidence, they were keen and had the resources to back them up,” says Mynett, a chartered accountant, whose home is featured on the front cover of this month’s Westcoast Homes & Design. “From the day we met with [president] Graeme Huguet, to the day we received the keys to our new home, the process was completely stress free.”

”Whether remodelling a single room or building your dream home . . . we guide you through every step.”

Any issue that arose was dealt with in a timely and professional manner, he adds. “They had proposed solutions for a problem before we even met to discuss it,” Mynett says. “When our home was completed, Graeme and his team pointed out discrepancies that we hadn’t even noticed ourselves … I would definitely hire them again.”

It’s that trust and customer satisfaction that Huguet strives for on every project – whether it’s a small renovation or building a new home. “Our goal is to create great spaces, homes that reflect the personalities and lifestyles of their owners,” says Huguet, the team leader.

Before

“Initially, we sit down with our client to assess their needs, wants, budget and time line; then help weigh the options and come up with a plan,” he says. “Whether remodelling a single room or building your dream home, it’s a process; and we guide you through every step.”

In the case of Gary Mynett’s home, it started when the clients saw a conceptual drawing of a Lindal Cedar Home in Dwell Magazine. Picture in hand they met with the MyHouse Team, explained their vision, and the process began.

After

“We understand that our clients have busy lives so we strive to take care of all the details, while keeping them informed every step of the way,” says Huguet. “Our in-house team of design professionals help our clients see what is possible, then our production team makes it a reality. Together they are all very passionate about what they do and it shows in the calibre of work we produce.”

Supporting this claim are the numerous awards the My House Team has gathered over the years, including finalist for 15 GVHBA Ovation awards, numerous national SAM awards and 30 Georgie Awards. Most recently, My House Design/Build Team was named 2010 Georgie Award Renovator of the Year and 2011 RenoMark Renovator Member of the Year.

Will Gary Mynett’s project be another award winner? The homeowner believes so – and to the My House team “ . . . that’s what matters most!” Meanwhile, Huguet and his team will take to the stage at the BC Home & Garden Show next week to share insight into the Design/Build process. www.myhousedesignbuild.com
