Show Suite: A look at Solterra’s Bordeaux display suite in Brentwood

At Burnaby’s Bordeaux, planners ensure residents will have easy access to the amenities that make life livable

With a focus on livability—thoughtful space planning, practical features and luxury finishes—Bordeaux, Solterra Group’s planned highrise in Burnaby, is designed to appeal to the end user, says Laura Rizzo, the developer’s vice-president of marketing.
Planned for the site at 4482 Juneau Street (at the corner of Willingdon Avenue), the tower will be part of the burgeoning Brentwood neighbourhood, close to restaurants, shopping, schools and major transportation routes and transit.
The GBL Architects-designed 23-storey concrete-and-glass building with 140 one-, two- and three-bedroom air-conditioned homes is scheduled for completion in spring 2021.
Rizzo says Bordeaux was designed to ensure residents can enjoy both interior and exterior living spaces. “Every home has ample outdoor living space with either a balcony or a terrace to enjoy during the summer months,” she says. The outdoor amenities include a landscaped terrace with seating, a barbecue, a children’s play area and community garden plots.
The homes range in size from 563 square feet for the one-bedrooms to 2,424 square feet for the larger three-bedroom units.
The presentation centre for Bordeaux showcases two different colour palettes: the one-bedroom/one-bathroom unit is finished in the black and light oak Pierre colour scheme, while the two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment’s warm grey tones reflect the Olivia palette. Although not seen in a display suite, a third colour scheme of soft greys and brushed gold (Madeleine) is exclusive to Bordeaux’s private collection units on levels 17 to 23, the seven townhomes and selected homes on levels two and three.

Dual-tone Italian cabinetry gives the kitchens their contemporary ambience: In the larger unit (Olivia palette) the upper cabinets’ horizontal wood grain contrasts against high-gloss grey lower cabinets.
A five-burner Italian-designed Fulgor Milano cooktop and wall oven and a Liebherr refrigerator/freezer are grouped on the back wall of the kitchen. “The refrigerator/freezer and the dishwasher are integrated to enhance the sleek design of the kitchen,” says Jade Kwok, Solterra Group’s vice-president of interior design. Quartz countertops and single-slab backsplashes in the same engineered stone (white for the Pierre scheme and a warm grey for the Olivia palette) are practical and easy to clean, she says.
Careful space planning is evident in the dining arrangements. The 72-by-26.5-inch island in the two-bedroom display suite also anchors a fold-out table that comfortably seats four people. When not in use, it folds away to free up space in the living area.
In the one-bedroom suite (Pierre palette), black upper cabinets are prominent against the light oak lower cabinets and a slide-out tabletop from the side of the 31-by-49-inch island creates a cosy dining spot for two.
Sliding frosted-glass bedroom doors are another example of clever space planning. When the doors are open, the laminate flooring used throughout the units seamlessly connects the rooms, enhancing a feeling of spaciousness. Adding to the airy ambience are the large windows and sliding doors to the balconies.
In the one-bedroom’s bathroom, dramatic 12-by-24-inch black marble-look floor tiles are a bold choice juxtaposed against the white marble-look porcelain tiles on the wall. A black-framed mirror ties in with the floor tiles while an undermount sink in the light oak floating vanity gives the bathroom a clean, modern look.
In the two-bedroom’s ensuite bathroom, a 36-inch-wide trough sink in the glossy grey floating vanity and the travertine-look porcelain floor and wall tiles are stylish features in the room.
Rizzo says Bordeaux will have close to 19,000 square feet of amenities and services including a concierge and a lobby with designer furnishings, finishes and an impressive three-sided fireplace. There is also a business lounge, a residents’ lounge with a gourmet kitchen and dining area, a fitness room, a yoga studio and a games room for those informal poker or board game evenings with friends.
